Mental health affects us all and has real impacts on our lives.  At Six Nations Schools, we are committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of all students and staff.  We embrace Public Health Canada’s definition of positive mental health as:

“the capacity of each of us to feel, think and act in ways that enhance our ability to enjoy life and deal with the challenges we face.  It is a positive sense of emotional and social well-being that respects the importance of culture, equity, social justice, interconnections and personal dignity.”

The schools work closely with Six Nations Health Services and Six Nations Social Services to provide students, parents and staff with resources, strategies and supports through its community outreach programs.  Our school based Mental Health Worker works with children (families) who are having personal and/or social difficulties.  Services include prevention programs, counselling, case management, and consultation processes in collaboration with other service providers.

Our Haudenosaunee Values are for front in our daily actions, activities and communications with others.  Understanding the value of a “Good mind” when interacting with others is essential to our creating a positive path to supporting each other.  Teachers implement the values into daily activities, communications, cultural and curriculum teachings.
