Six Nations Schools recognize the benefits of early identification of our young children’s

preparedness for school.  We have in place procedures that are part of a continuous assessment and program-planning process which is initiated when a child prepares to enrol in school and continues throughout a child’s school life.

The process begins during the registration process.  The parent(s)/guardian, the daycare centre and Health Services/Social Services staff are consulted about any existing medical conditions or developmental concerns.  Our Kindergarten teachers are able to use the information provided to begin the early identification process.  With parental consent, Transition meetings are held in May/June prior to the children starting school in September.  When a concern has been noted, an referral to the Special Education Teacher is made and parents are consulted.

With the assistance of Ontario Ministry documents “Education for All” and “Learning for All” our teaching staff implements strategies to support student learning and growth.
