Our Story

Jamieson School was built in 1977 and replaced No. 2 School.  Prior to Jamieson School being opened in 1977, children from the Village of Ohsweken attended No. 2 school or went to school in the community dining hall or at the Residential School in Brantford known as the Mohawk Institute.  Jamieson School’s library is in the centre of the school, is easily accessible from both small wings of the school and is a focal point of the school.

Jamieson School is located on the left of Chiefswood Road as you enter the Village of Ohsweken from the south.  The School is named for the three Jamieson sisters, Julia, Nora and Mary and their brother Andrew.  They were all highly respected school teachers on Six Nations of the Grand River for many years dating back as early as 1939.  Mary was a nurse before becoming a teacher and Julia taught the Mohawk Language to adults in the 1950s.
