LEARNING IN FEDERAL SCHOOLS

Nya:węh sgę:nǫˀ Saˀkneh!

Happy September!

Something we often hear from members of our community, is that they are learning because they want to support their children’s learning at school. We think this is amazing and are thankful that so many people want to learn more language so they can support the students in their lives (as well as their teachers).

As everyone prepares to go back to school, we thought we would start this little series that would help parents and kids learning language in schools to have more vocabulary to use with them. We know that schools may also offer opportunities whenever they can to help caregivers learn alongside their children, and if you have a chance to take advantage of one of those sessions – we will be cheering you on!

In the meantime, we hope you find this useful. Happy September!

Six Nations School District

Six Nations Education Program is administered in partnership with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) as the funder and with support and direction of the Six Nations community.  Six Nations School District provides students with a strong foundation in critical areas such as literacy, numeracy, culture and language while providing enriching opportunities both inside and outside the classroom to explore and discover their strengths and interests.

Elementary schools provide new experiences to increase student understanding of effective learning strategies, while creating and enabling environments where all students can participate fully. These learning experiences are based on the Haudenosaunee Values and the Four Directions of Learning.
